Start Offer Remote Assistance ** Version 1.80 **

Start Offer Remote Assistance [sora.exe] is a utility script that starts the Offer Remote Assistance application on a Windows XP, Windows Vista, or a Windows 2003 computer. But wait there's more... you can pass a machine name to the script and it will start the Offer Remote Assistance application with that machine name pre-populated in the computer name field, then it will 'press' the connect button to show you who is logged onto that machine so you may start viewing the screen.

As you know, starting Offer Remote Assistance in Windows XP is cumbersome using the Start > Help and Support method. Try finding the darn thing - it's not easy. This script alleviates that frustration. Put the script on your C:\ drive and create shortcuts (or use a command line) to the application with a machine name right inside the shortcut, for example: C:\sora.exe wkstn01    In this example, Offer Remote Assistance will start with the name 'wkstn01' in the computer name field. If you prefer to type the machine name directly into the Remote Assistance window, just double click on sora.exe to launch Offer Remote Assistance in its original form. If you place the SORA.exe utility in a location that is sourced in your PATH system variable list, you do not need to type the C:\ in front of the application. For instance, I store mine in the C:\windows\System32 directory and simply type: "sora wkstn01" (without quotes), in my run box.

On Microsoft Windows Vista, you have the same choices as previously described, you can pass a machine name to SORA and it will start the Vista offer remote assistance application in "expert" mode and auto connect to the computer. Alternatively, if you do not pass a machine name, the Vista offer remote assistance application will simply start in the "expert" mode and then you can manually type in a name or select from the previous connection list.

** Version 1.80, released 5/27/2009 **
